2000 Washington Post on Events and Medical Risks

During the Avon walk for breast cancer in May, more than 100 participants were treated by the event's medical staff and another 50 were hospitalized during the three-day trek after a heat wave caught many people unprepared. Last month, a 51-year-old man riding in a Boston AIDS bike event had a heart attack, swerved into the path of a motorcycle and was killed.
