  • 2,200 People Walk 50km to Aid Poor Kids
    SHANGHAI (April 22, 2012) -- More than 2,200 people walked 50 kilometers in the city as part of a charity project that raised 1.66 million yuan (US$268,522), primarily to benefit poverty-stricken students in China. The event, the One Egg Project, had participants bet with their friends and relatives that they could complete the hike.     This week at the Run Walk Ride Council's annual conference, I had the honor of presenting a pre-session on garnering more sponsorship with Flo Bryan of the American Cancer Society and Bonnie Gordon of Walgreens. Titled “Improve Your Thon’s Sponsorship Performance” the session turned out to be very interactive pulling wisdom from all those in attendance. Which is good because even old dogs (at least this old dog) are interested in learning a few new tricks.   • Academic News: Nostalgia Can Increase Charitable Giving
    Reminiscing about times past can stir up pleasant feelings of nostalgia. But nostalgia increases charitable intentions as well as actual charitable donations, according to a 2012 study published in the Journal of Consumer Research. “The experiments helped to build a compelling case that nostalgia increases charitable intentions,” says study co-author Tim Wildschut, a social psychologist at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. The effect on charitable intentions flows from an increase in empathy produced by nostalgia.(2/22/2013) permalink

    The annual Cupid’s Undie Run raises money for The Children’s Tumor Foundation while featuring a spectacle of scantily clad 20-somethings running around Capitol Hill. “We put the Hilarity in Charity,” states the Cupid’s Undie Run’s Twitter header, which barely breaks through the collage of photos of said 20-somethings in skivvies ranging from arguably tasteful to arguably underwear.(2/14/2013) permalink

    A little more than 26 hours after opening on-line sales to the general public, the Disneyland Half Marathon, Disneyland 10K and Dumbo Double Dare reached capacity and set a runDisney sell out record. Coming off successful back-to-back capacity filled race weekends, in which more than 65,000 registered runners participated in the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and more than 19,500 in the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland Resort, runDisney races have reached a new threshold with record fast sell out times, joining the ranks of other sell out races Marine Corps Marathon, ING New York City Marathon and Boston Marathon.
