The former director of development at the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Rachel Armbruster played a key role in the creation of the LIVESTRONG wrist brand campaign, a program that transformed that organization. The author of the recently published "Banding Together for a Cause," Rachel will share insights gained from that experience that can help other nonprofits enhance their overall performance and event programs.
Speaker Profile:
Rachel Armbruster is President of Armbruster Consulting and is an executive nonprofit
strategist specializing in fundraising. She lives in Austin, Texas, and has more than 15 years experience in marketing, nonprofit management, and fundraising. As an executive nonprofit strategist, Rachel is focused on solving revenue, structure, and opportunity challenges in order to maximize the return on investment for charities and their partners. Rachel is dedicated to the success and growth of organizations and is passionate about making positive changes in
society. Her client list is a reflection of her philanthropic objectives. Rachel’s extensive background in nonprofit strategies comes from years of dedication to the field, including her role as Vice President of Business Development for Event 360, Inc. where she launched the Autism Society and Pump It Up cause-marketing campaigns and served as a member of the consulting team for multiple nonprofit engagements. Clients often comment about Rachel’s breadth of experience and ideas which are highlighted when coming up with out-of-the-box thinking, creative approaches to fundraising, interesting concepts, or new ways to innovate existing programs.
While she was the Director of Development at the Lance Armstrong Foundation (Foundation), Rachel was responsible for creating new fundraising programs, evaluating proposals, and planning for future Foundation revenue. When she started with the organization in 2001, Rachel was one of three employees and was responsible for growing the Ride for the Roses event. From 2001 to 2006, the Foundation grew from an organization with $1 million in annual revenue to a
global cancer charity raising more than $40 million a year. One her many successes at the Foundation was managing the Nike relationship for six years and playing an instrumental role in the launch and management of the LIVESTRONG wristband campaign.
Prior to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Rachel worked in advertising for SicolaMartin Advertising managing event marketing and on-site branding for one of the agency’s strategic technology accounts. While residing in El Paso, Rachel served as the Director of Marketing for the Sun Bowl Association. Rachel has made it her life’s work to assist nonprofit organizations with their fundraising and outreach programs by making them more efficient and effective.
Armbruster has been invited to speak at many special training and development conferences, such as the Run Walk Ride Conference, annual IEG Sponsorship Conference, and Kellogg School of Business Marketing Conference. She currently serves on the Fertility Advisory Committee at the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Rachel is a graduate of Purdue University with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and her Masters in Business Administration from St. Edward’s University. Rachel lives in Austin with her husband Brandon and is the proud mother of two fantastic boys (Carter, age 7, and Evan, age 5).
