Kate Harle

Marketing & Communications Strategy Officer, The Marine Mammal Center

Kate is a graduate of Durham University (UK), with 12 years marketing experience - 8 years at marketing agencies in the UK helping clients like Nokia, American Express, MINI and Intel, bring their brands to life. Kate gave it all up for love, moved to the States and joined the Advancement Department at the Center as a volunteer in 2009. 7 months later she was hounded to become an underpaid and technology-starved nonprofit employee. Her love of animals, conservation and a challenge meant that she couldn’t resist.

She is charged with creating and implementing the Center’s marketing strategy to increase awareness and optimize fundraising, and spends a copious amount of her day using an arsenal of online tools to do this. With her brand experience background, she also manages the launch of visitor exhibits and produces their biggest fundraising events including Run for the Seals – a 1,300 person fun run that involves kids, strollers and dogs (!) all racing around the beautiful Marin Headlands, CA, to raise money for the Center’s pinniped patients.

Things you may not know, but should know about Kate:
  • She’s a squirrel foster-care mum
  • She’s a green-belt in Karate (that’s not very high but it sounds impressive)
  • She loves karaoke, biscuits (of the English kind), Mad Men and her geeky game designer husband
